Why I chose to Donate 100% of My Proceeds
I wanted to give back. I wanted to do it consistently but I didn’t know what that looked like. And, I think because of my unfamiliarity with the charities (other than what we give to our local church or related ministries) I didn’t give outside of that….at least not consistently. And subconsciously I needed a foot in the door but didn’t know how to comfortably do that. I felt intimidated and inadequate when it came to giving locally. Who would I call? What if I can’t do it? What if I’m not ready to dive in deep? What if I can’t commit? Then one night I decided to combine what I’m very comfortable doing (cookie decorating) with something I’m very uncomfortable with and take the dive. It seemed easy. I just needed to sell those cookies, research the charity (still didn’t call them) and mail them the check. (Did you notice how I haven’t contacted the charity yet?) Actually I did tag them on Instagram but that was it!
Well it was time, I saved up $1,000 of my cookie proceeds from my amazing supporters which included friends, family and people I met for the first time! Now it was time to make that uncomfortable phone call. What do I say? I’m just a small tiny company? How will I communicate how magnificent this moment was for myself, family and all the supporters? Am I the only one with voices of doubts running through their head, lol? Well, it took a power greater than I to surrender those anxious feelings to.
