Growing up on Hummus I feel like I’m an expert when it comes to authentic Lebanese Hummus and this is the easiest and most authentic way to make hummus! It’s my families favorite and my kids can make it too!
The Secret to Creamy Hummus:
We all know and have tasted grainy hummus or you probably made grainy hummus. You probably decided that Costco Hummus is better because it’s creamy. But let me tell you the secret to making it smooth and lovely! The secret to creamy hummus is to boil the garbanzo beans before hand! I will give you the step by step instructions on how to make this Easy Hummus!
Boil the drained garbanzo beans with half cup of water for a few minutes. Turn off the heat and immediately pour the mixture into a food processor. Add your garlic and salt and close the lid to your food processor. Turn on the pulse setting and let it run for 2 minutes. Scrape down the sides.
Add the Tahini and lemon juice and pulse for another minute and you’re done! You should have smooth hummus!! Give it a taste and see if it’s to your liking!
Optimize your hummus preparation by transferring it to a storage container and covering it with a paper towel to prevent crust formation during cooling. Choose to serve immediately or follow this optional step for personalized preference—there’s no strict rule.
When you are ready to serve your hummus. Spread it onto a pretty plate, using a spoon to create crevices. Pour extra virgin olive oil over…I like a lot of olive oil but that too is up to your preference on how you like your Hummus!
What is Za’atar Spice?
Za’atar Spice is a blend of savory dried herbs like oregano. marjoram or thyme, and toasted earthy spices like cumin and coriander, with sesame seeds, salt and the most important ingredient of all… sumac! Sumac gives it the delicious unexpected tanginess that to me, is the key to the best zaatar. You can find zaatar at any local middle eastern stores. You can also purchase it from Terranean Herbs which is my personal favorite! https://terraneanherbs.com
